Sometimes we get some cool projects. Here are the latest…
Arlene likes to ride her bike. Across countries. In far off lands. And she’s 73.
In walks Arlene and her 1999 Merlin Agilis, complete with Ritchey Breakaway couplings so that her steed can come apart and fold into a regular suitcase! She wanted a new parts spec—light, fast, durable, and looking good.
This is going to be fun!
First we stripped the frame and cleaned it thoroughly. Then ordered all new bearings and a new ENVE 1.0 fork. After 13 years, forks can get flimsy, so the ENVE fork will return the bike’s snap and handling. She got a new 10 speed Ultegra drivetrain and brakeset, Zipp Service Course cockpit, and Zipp 101 wheels sporting Michelin Service Course Endurance tires. She rides aerobars on long tours, so the Zipp Vuka clips were the ideal choice there. We went with their Race bend extensions.
But that’s not all. What good is a fancy new bike if it looks like every other bike? We added just enough blue bling to make the bike her bike! Cable end caps and ferrules, seat collar, and Lizard Skins 3.2mm super-cushy bar tape.
Then the build began!
Arlene came in to get her new bike, and was floored! “Wow!” came out 12 times before another word.
We then had her hop on the fit stand…what good is a fancy bike that doesn’t fit well? She walked out happy. Her feedback after the first ride: “SWEET!”
That’s what we do. How can we help you?
